Today is Day 1 of Week 2 of my Solo Boot Camp. As I posted on Saturday, the goal for week 2 is the same as week 1. The gym. Every weekday morning. No excuses.
It was a tough morning.
It was a cool night, and I slept with the window open, which meant the bedroom was chilly this morning, and my bed was oh so cozy.
But I did it, I was in spinning this morning!
The other reason it was tough - I was really lacking oomph this morning. Serious lack of energy. When I did try to push myself extra hard - trying to fight my energy depletion - I started feeling a little nauseous. I ignored it, kept pushing, and finished the class - but it was unpleasant.
I'm hoping tomorrow morning feels better!
One exciting aspect to the weekend: blueberries!!!
Although it's a little early for blueberries, BF and I went out scouting yesterday morning - hoping to maybe get a few, but at least get an idea of when we should go back out - i.e. when they would be really ready. First off - the berries are going to be awesome this year. Although there were still a lot of unripe ones, there were also lots of ready to pick ones in areas with lots and lots of sun exposure. After about an hour of picking we had 3/4 of a big basket. For those of you who buy berries at the grocery store - that's about $40 worth of blueberries at non-sale prices! Crazy. And this reconfirms why I refuse to buy blueberries. We plan to pick LOTS this year - so I'll have them all winter.
My favourite fruits in no particular order are cherries, blueberries and strawberries, so I'm pumped!
I could use some help though - does anyone have a great recipe for blueberries?
Happy Monday Everyone!

Best. Ice Cream. Ever
The best ice cream I've had in a looooong time is this:
PC Loads of Decadent Chocolatey Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream
There are many, many reasons it's delicious, but here's the kicker:
It is literally SO decadent that all I needed to satisfy my craving was a 1/2 cup serving. My cravings historically require mass amounts of the food in question to be satisfied, so this is a serious accomplishment!
So somewhere between 4 and 5 points, and I was a happy, full-of-ice-cream girl. That is a small price to pay.
Cookie dough in every bite, chocolate in every bite, and awesome creamy rich ice cream as a base.
Go buy some now. If you are American, I aplogize, I'm not sure if they sell this outside of Canada... I could be wrong!

Solo Boot Camp: Week 2 Plan
The plan for week 2: rinse and repeat.
I am going to go to the 6:15 am class at my gym every weekday morning this week.
I haven't weighed in or taken any measurements yet to see if Week 1 yielded any results, I'm going to put that off until the end of week 2. I'd rather give my body a chance to adjust and hopefully see some really motivating results at the end of this week.
And as for this Saturday morning - wow, is it ever nice to wake up and relax. Going to the gym first thing in the morning has definitely given me a new appreciation for waking up and relaxing!!
Happy Saturday!

Solo Boot Camp: Week 1 Complete!
Well, today was Day 5 of the first week of my Solo Boot Camp.
Verdict: Success! I made it to the 6:15 am spinning class!
The great thing is I wasn't even that sore this morning - there was a little tenderness when I first got in the saddle - but I quickly forgot about it.
I am really, really proud of myself for completing this week. And now I'm totally psyched to see what else I can do this month.
I'll be posting my week 2 plan this weekend.
In other news, I'm working from home today! Hooray! After the gym I got to work to discover a flood in my office... not good. The whole area I work in was sopping wet. There were literally puddles of water on top of the carpet. Thank goodness that there was no (obvious) damage to any of the electrical equipment in the area. After helping with some basic cleanup, I grabbed my laptop and headed home while the cleaners try and dry things out.
Happy Friday Everyone! Hope it's a great weekend for you!

Solo Boot Camp: Day 4
Oh yeah!
I have completed day 4. I was at that 6:15 am Pump class this morning!!
I popped some ibuprofen as soon as I got up - and it worked. The pain from Tuesday's Pump class was minimal, but I was weak, my muscles were still exhausted from Tuesday. Oh well, I can only get stronger!
I can't believe that I only have one more day to complete before I can say I did 100% of week 1!!
For anyone who hasn't been reading, I've challenged myself to a Solo Boot Camp. The challenge is to significantly boost my physical activity "boot camp style" for 4 weeks, and basically see what happens. A loose goal is to lose 5 to 10 lbs and hopefully some inches, but in my head I'm not really making it a goal on the scale - I making the goal more about simply getting my butt moving A LOT for one month. The hope is that when the month is over, I will once again be a gym addict and look and feel great.
In most "boot camp" atmospheres, the idea is to push yourself totally out of your comfort zone. There's no "ramp up" or "taking it easy", it's plain and simple - work your ass off - and watch the results happen. So that's what my challenge is all about.
I'm sick of listening to myself make excuses about not exercising.
"I don't have time." - yes you do, you're just lazy.
"I'm tired" - from what?? - you have a desk job, get off your ass.
"I want some time to relax." - working out for one hour a day will not impede on relaxation time. You don't have kids, you only work one job, and you have no real "hobbies" that eat up your time.
All of these excuses are BS and I need to just leave them behind.
The challenge for week 1 is this:
Go to the gym and attend the 6:15 class every day for 5 days.
I am one day away from completion.
I've been considering what week 2 will be - but I think I will wait until Saturday to decide that. I have an idea, but I'm not going to commit to it yet by writing it here.
Happy Thursday Everyone - the weekend is just around the corner!!

Solo Boot Camp: Day 3
Day 3 - another success! I dragged my tired (and sore!!) butt out of bed and made it to the 6:15 am spinning class!
Two points which made this workout less than ideal:
1. OMG ouch my bum! When you don't do spinning in 6 months, your rear-end once again must get used to sitting on a spinning bike - apparently Monday's class caused a bit (yeah right - A LOT!) of tenderness in the area. For the first 15 minutes I was simply trying to ignore the pain - and that made me put a lot less effort into actually cycling then I would have liked. After the 15 minutes, I think my body accepted the fact that I was NOT getting off of the bike and decided to let me ignore the pain.
2. 45 minutes?! I was expecting a 60 minute class - so I was pacing myself - and then suddenly we were on cool down... and I thought we would still be working for another 15 minutes! A disappointment - but I will ask next time how long the class is so I can pace myself appropriately.
So tomorrow, my plan is to do the Pump class again - but I'm a little worried about how I will feel. My body is pretty notorious for having the majority of my muscle pain 2 days after a workout - not one. Which means the peak of my pain from Tuesday's Pump class will be tomorrow.
My plan to overcome this is to dose myself with some ibuprofen when I wake up - but if I think it would be too much once I get to the gym - I will simply do some cardio on either the treadmill or the eliptical. I will still be there!!
As for bum pain and Friday's spinning class - I think I will dose myself with ibuprofen again and do the same as I did today - suck it up!!
Over halfway through week 1!! I can't wait to say I finished it :)
Happy Wednesday!

Solo Boot Camp: Day 2
Day 2 - a success! I once again dragged by butt out of bed at 5:30 am and got to the gym!
Today was Pump - 60 minute full body strength class. I used to do this class all the time - but I probably haven't attended one in 6 to 8 months.
Wow. What a difference. For some of the weights (mostly upper body) I used to be able to lift double in some cases!! It was a serious eye opener.
You know what's great though? Instead of being discouraged by the fact I'm out of shape - I'm motivated - now I want to be back where I was - and better!
I'm also pumped that I'm almost halfway through Week 1 and I'm not dreading tomorrow morning's alarm clock. This is a really good sign that I will make it through this week!
I did take my measurements last night - so now I will have something other than the scale to mark my progress against. Here's the numbers:
Bust (widest part) : 36"
Waist (around belly button) : 31"
Thighs (widest part) : 41"
I don't expect to see any changes in my bust - but I hope to see a reduction in both my waist and thighs. My thighs are definitely my "trouble area", so this is the part of my body I'm really hoping to see a difference in.
Happy Tuesday Everyone! At least it's not Monday anymore :)
